Liverpool to appeal
LIVERPOOL: Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said he will appeal Joe Cole’s red card which forced the Anfield giants to play the entire second half of Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal with 10 men. Cole’s English Premier League bow as a Liverpool player lasted just 45 minutes when he was sent-off by refreer Martin Atkinson for a scything tackle on Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny. It was the England midfielder’s first red card of his career. “It would be a big loss if he is suspended,” said Hodgson.
Cardiff eye Bellamy
LONDON: Manchester City’s Welsh international striker Craig Bellamy has been linked with a switch to Championship side Cardiff City, the club he supported as a boy, reports suggested on Sunday. Cardiff would not confirm a deal had been agreed with the Wales captain, but it is believed the 31-year-old striker could complete a loan move soon. A Cardiff spokesman told the Press Association: “With the number and the names of the clubs being mentioned in connection to Craig it is flattering that we are an option, but at this stage it is pure speculation.”
