KATHMANDU: Renuka Khatri handed Morgan International College the third gold medal after rallying to beat fellow college friend Alina Maharjan 6-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7 in the girls’ singles final of the first Morgan Cup Inter-college Table Tennis Tournament here at the National Table Tennis Training Centre on Monday.
Rojina Deshar of United and Sanisha Shrestha of Morgan finished joint third in the girls’ singles. Prime avenged their girls’ team event final loss to Morgan by beating the same opponent 3-2 to win the boys’ team event.
In singles, Pradip Rokka of Prime beat Prajwol Rajbhandari of Morgan 11-9, 11-9, 12-14, 9-11, 11-4 but Anish Shrestha levelled the scores beating Pravin Sherpa 11-9, 13-11, 15-13.
Sujan Thapaliya put Morgan 2-1 ahead beating Binesh Khaniya 4-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-6 of Prime. Prime equalised the scores when Pradip overcame Anish Shrestha of Morgan 11-6, 11-9, 11-6. Pradin Sherpa then defeated Prajjol 11-7, 11-4, 7-11, 11-7 to win the deciding singles match to hand Prime the team event gold.
Morgan College are assured of clinching yet another gold medal as two pairs of their college are in the mixed doubles final.
The duo of Anish Shrestha and Renuka Khatri defeated Anup Bhakta Joshi and Rejina Deshar 11-8, 11-7, 12-10, while Prajjol Rajbhandari and Alina Maharjan teamed up to beat Bilosh Shrestha and Selisha Khadgi of Caribbean 11-4, 11-3, 11-7. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday.
