KATHMANDU: They spun
plates, rolled cups, rode unicycle, balanced jar on head and performed
other incredible acts that left the audience amazed and excited with
their eyes wide open. The China National Acrobatic Troop that is in
Kathmandu all the way from China was able to get rounds and rounds of
applause from the Nepali audience in the Chinese Acrobatic Show that
started at Nepal Academy on August 16.
From the word go itself the audience was captivated by the show. As a
group of eight girls entered the stage holding four sticks in each hand,
with a plate spinning on top of each stick, one word echoed in the hall
“Wow!”
These girls surprised their audience even more when they climbed on each
other in a formation, danced, jumped, but throughout the act the plates
did not stop spinning. It was not magic but a real performance, a
perfect example of balance. But to many it was no less than magic.
Diabolo was equally an entertaining performance — a boy showed balancing
tricks with two sticks tied with a rope on which he balanced a bowl. He
flipped the bowl up and down, left and right.
Then a girl came riding a unicycle that was almost two-metres tall using
just one foot. Then she suddenly started kicking bowls with her foot
stacking them up on her head. Each successive flip was done with a
greater number of bowls and she was able to keep them from falling.
While another girl bended her body in almost all directions and it seemed someone was bending rubber.
The treat didn’t end there — balancing jars on head, umbrella and rope
stunts followed. Each performance was perfectly complemented by the
music making the atmosphere even livelier. The colourful costumes
further enhanced the whole presentation which was a visual delight as
well.
Hosted by the Chinese Embassy and World Cultural Net, the first day of
the four-day-long show saw audience which comprised a huge range of
people. Vice-President Parmananda Jha, who was present at the show said,
“China is a very good friend of Nepal, and this cultural event will
make the diplomatic relation much stronger.”
“Cultural exchange is important part of bilateral relationship. This
show is one of such catalyst to enhance Nepal-China relation,” stated Xi
Hui, Chinese Charge d’ affairs to Nepal.
The show will be staged till August 19 at Nepal Academy at 5:00 pm. |
